Pelatiah Fonbah

Director of Wellness

Pelatiah believes that nursing is her true calling—a way to touch lives, ease suffering and create support. “My passion for caring and my desire to make a positive impact drives my every day action,” she says. She’s been at it for 15 years (CNA, LPN) in various healthcare settings, combining her natural empathy with extensive clinical experience.

However, marine science came first. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science at Fourth Bay College in Sierra Leone. She also earned a Master’s degree in Marine Management from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. She then pursued nursing by becoming an LPN (Ultimate Health School in Alexandria, Virginia) and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (RN) from Bowie State University.

“As I reflect on my journey, from marine science to nursing, I know that my legacy lies in the hearts of those I care for,” says Pelatiah.

In her capacity as Director of Wellness at Modena Reserve, Pelatiah considers communication to be key for effectively supporting residents and their families. “I love the positive feedback I get from family and residents every day.”

Spare time usually finds Pelatiah cooking or spending time with family or members of her church group. She has two children and says her perfect vacation would be to “go home and visit family.”
